WATCH: TV star Lorraine Kelly thanks trash pickers for cleaning up her hometown


East Kilbride TV star and Lorraine Kelly praised the town’s garbage pickers in a video thanking them for their exceptional efforts.

East Kilbride Community Litter Pickers was formed last March and has seen volunteers from across town pick up thousands of garbage bags with over 1,500 members.

And a recent initiative – the 5×5 pledge – that saw the group call on 50 East Kilbride residents to collect a bag of trash a week for five weeks, starting on January 10, has met overwhelming reviews.

It was this initiative that led former East Kilbride News reporter Lorraine, whose parents still live in the town, to thank her personally.

In the video, Lorraine, who attended Claremont High, said: “Hello, it’s Lorraine here and I want to thank everyone who participated in the 5×5 pledge for East Kilbride Community Litter Pickers.

“You are fantastic and thank you very much for all your hard work and for cleaning up East Kilbride ….. I really wish people had more respect for where they live. Thank you for all your efforts all over the place. year round. “

Alice Alves, founder of the group and Fiona MacFarlane, organizer of the 5×5 pledge, called Lorraine’s message an “incredible” gesture and thanked everyone for their support.

They told Lanarkshire Live: “The folks at EK have taken on the 5×5 challenge en masse.

“We have now reached and exceeded the goal of 50 people to take on the challenge.

“EK Community Litter Pickers would like to thank each of you and I can’t wait to see how you do.
