Watch: Former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted and the band Chophouse perform at a charity event in Jupiter

THE CHOPHOUSE GROUPthe group led by the former METALLIC bass player Jason Newsted, performed last night (Saturday, April 23) at the Maltz Jupiter Theater in Jupiter, Florida. It was a benefit event for the Goldner Conservatory, a professional conservatory that provides the highest caliber of arts education to students of all ages.

professional violinist Carl Schmidwhich is part of Jasonshared photos and a video from yesterday’s concert and included the following message: “METALLIC was the second band I ever saw as a kid – I went to Giants Stadium in New Jersey, where I saw them with GUNS N ROSES and FAITH MORE opening of the show. My ears are still ringing from that show – it must have been the loudest event I have ever attended. And that was my first taste of Rock N Roll. Until then, I was a clumsy 13-year-old kid who played mozart and Bach. I came home from that show and told my parents that I wanted to be like those guys. They were mortified. A few years ago, just by chance (or not), I met Jason Newsted and he invited me to his place to play. We played a few shows together and then Covid hit. He took a two year hiatus, then about 4 months ago we got back together.

“Last night was amazing – we played for a sold out Maltz theater in Jupiter, and were able to raise a whole lot of money for deserving kids to go to music school. Just a few years ago, I crawled back with literally a bag of clothes, and very little desire to live, let alone play. The gifts I received, the incredible grace I was shown and felt, are everything just unbelievable. It’s been a pretty tough month for me, but last night was just another reminder that anything is possible in recovery. Anything.”

Earlier this week, News spoken to 98.7 The Doorman radio station about the Maltz Jupiter Theater concert, saying, “During my COVID downtime, I was in upstate New York. I wrote about 35 new songs during that. I l I brought it back to my boys. I was sending them the tapes, the demos, sending it to them to learn… And that’s what we’re going to do at the Maltz. We play some songs that people know, inspired by Johnny Cash and all, but most of it is new original music from THE CHOPHOUSE GROUP. I don’t play acoustic guitar anymore – it’s just Les Pauls and SGs and stuff now. Some are a little quieter, but most are not.”

Development of the musical direction of the new THE CHOPHOUSE GROUP Material, Jason mentioned: “THE CHOPHOUSE GROUP started out as an almost bluegrass-tinged thing, and now it’s getting to places that are as heavy as anything I’ve been involved in – Voivode, ozy [Osbourne], METALLIC, NEWS bandaged; any of that stuff – it’s happening in those places now. “

Adding that he “likes” to sing, News said, “Now since the last time anyone saw THE CHOPHOUSE GROUP, we have a vocal group within the group. There are now four singers in the group. I have two singers from New York – a woman and a man – coming to join us. And so I sing eight or 10 songs, and they sing the rest, but I’m doing backing vocals and stuff now. So I can really focus on playing guitar and then singing in the background. And there are cries and some [growling] also. So I still haven’t lost that. And that lets people know there’s still a foot there. You can take the metal boy out [but] you cannot remove the metal from the boy; that’s just how it’s always gonna be. So I’m thrilled that people can witness what we’ve worked so hard on. I put a lota lot – energy in these new songs.”

News also revealed that THE CHOPHOUSE GROUP will enter the studio on May 5 to begin recording their debut album. When asked if he would release the LP himself, Jason answered “yes” before specifying: “In fact, it is possible – very possible – that I will be back in the Q Prime to fold [METALLICA‘s longtime management company] with that kind of support, like a real thing.”

named after Jasonfour recording studios in the United States and boasting a fluid roster of players, THE CHOPHOUSE GROUP started in 1992 when News based The Chophouse Records Studio in San Francisco.

THE CHOPHOUSE GROUP is led by Newsplaying guitar and performing lead vocals, accompanied by close friends/musicians from all backgrounds and styles.

Jason previously said the Palm Beach Florida Weekly in regards to THE CHOPHOUSE GROUP“We all get along great because there’s no money involved. They have their own bands, their own families, their own gigs. We do benefit gigs, six a year, and c I record and write and play songs the whole rest of the time. They could all run around me music theory. They could tell you everything they play and all the chords that relate to it. I surround myself with tough guys, and they really make me look good. I play cowboy chords all the time, and they go out of their way to make me look good. I just focus on singing and getting the stuff I want people to hear.

Jason left METALLIC in 2001, but was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Famein the same way Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett and the man who replaced him, the bassist Robert Trujilloin 2009.

Eight years ago, Jason sidelined NEWS, the heavy metal project he led between 2012 and 2014, saying it cost him “a huge amount of money – hundreds of thousands of dollars”. He added: “I couldn’t go on because the business is such a hard thing now and so different from what I had known.”
