(KTEN) – There is a new way to carry your COVID-19 vaccination card if you are carrying an iPhone in your pocket or purse.

Apple this week released an update to its iOS operating system that includes the ability to add a digital vaccination card to Apple Wallet. This could make it easier for people to present their vaccination record on their iPhone screen.

To access the feature, users will need the free iOS 15.1 update, but no third-party apps will be required and the vaccination card you add is digitally signed for added security.

Apple said you can use your camera to scan a verification QR code and receive a prompt to add the card to your wallet.

The feature gets a positive reaction from two Texomans who spoke with KTEN.

“If I’m on a plane you have to show everything else on your phone, so you might as well be there,” Sue Harrington said.

“I have my vaccination card in my wallet, now I wouldn’t have to carry it with me,” added Jaclyn Anderson. “Since I’m carrying my phone, it just would make more sense.”

There are several ways to store your vaccination record in Apple Health and Apple Wallet. The information can be accessed by opening the Apple Wallet app and scrolling down until you see a label that says “vaccination card”.

Or you can double click the side button on your iPhone to bring up the Apple Wallet option.
