Editor’s Notes: Birkenstock is taking notes from UGG.
The clog specialist is stepping into the fall with sheared slip-ons that are like a soft hug for your feet.
Two styles of bare toes, the Arizona and the Daytona, are updated with teddy bear-shaped uppers and insoles that will keep your fingers toasty warm. An EVA platform outsole adds a touch of height to both silhouettes.
Likewise, the Boston the hoof is enhanced with a large buckle, a thick sole and a puffy exterior. To compensate for the increased height of the shoes, all three models are built with plush Papillio footbeds.
Fluffy shoes are certainly suitable for indoor use, although I’m not entirely sure how successful Birkenstock is in their quest for open-toe sandals for winter.
That could be on something, however, given that this month has seen temperatures soar above 70 ° F – a sandal-friendly climate for the end of October. In addition, winter sandals are not that unknown.
Even more eye-catching, the soft sheepskin sandals are an eye-catching hybrid of two of the pandemic’s favorite shoes: the Birkenstock clog and the UGG boot.
Both silhouettes have seen a resurgence of interest over the past year and a half, thanks to our preference for comfortable, WFH-friendly shoes.
Birkenstock and UGG have capitalized on their new trend with a multitude of designer collaborations with Proenza Schouler, Stüssy and Telfar.
The parallels between the two brands make a Birk-UGG collaboration seem like a no-brainer. At the moment, there is no indication that the two would team up, but if they did, they would undoubtedly create the most comfortable shoe in the world.
