Balenciaga’s SS23 show invite is a lost wallet

Everyone can guess what Demna has up her sleeve at Balenciaga, whose show is scheduled for Paris Fashion Week on October 2. Building anticipation, the creative director – a master of memorable invitations – sent attendees a first glimpse of what he has in store.

The invitation to the brand’s Spring/Summer 2023 show comes in the form of a battered leather wallet filled with a mix of ID badges, receipts and credit cards bearing a woman’s name seemingly random: Natalia Antunes.

With the inventive invitation, attendees become the misguided recipients of Antunes’ lost wallet, allowing them the surreal experience of rummaging through a stranger’s belongings — a move that sets the stage for an equally bizarre parade.

The invite contains another clue to Saturday’s event: the location of the show and what appears to be the collection’s title, “The Mud Show,” a name reminiscent of wrestling in mud and rainy weather.

By now, Demna is well versed in the art of inviting to collect. Previously, Balenciaga sent out laser-engraved iPhones and stacks of fake cash as Fashion Week business cards, with the former teasing the brand’s unofficial collaboration with Apple and the latter hinting at its cheeky New York Stock Exchange show. York.

What clues can you glean from a lost wallet? I am confused.

Now someone finds Mrs. Antunes before her identity is stolen!
